Masanori Morita

Japan’s leading dance music producer and DJ.

As the unit STUDIO APARTMENT (SA), Masanori Morita has released 9 original albums and more than 300 original tracks on various labels (Defected, Toolroom, King Street, Hed Kandi, etc) around the globe.

SA won “BEST OF DEEP HOUSE 2008” and also charted as “BEST DEEP HOUSE TRACK” in 2009 on Beatport with an original track - a first for a producer from Asia.

In addition, four of SA's original tracks were ranked No. 1 overall on Traxsource, the biggest house music download site. Recently in the Japanese music industry, SA is one of only a few artists who have left a footprint in the global music arena.

SA has also appeared at the international dance music conferences ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event) and WMC (Winter Music Conference) in Miami (ADE 4 years in row / WMC 9 years in row). In 2012, Morita spun as resident DJ at the world’s biggest dance club Privilege Ibiza, which is found in the Guinness Book of World Records with an audience capacity of 12,000.

Outside of the music scene, through the collaboration with the luxury eyewear brand Oliver Peoples, SA released their first model "SAOP" (Studio Apartment × Oliver Peoples] globally in 2009. The second model was also released as "SAOPⅡ" in 2011.

In their native Japan, to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of Studio Apartment, SA released "JAPANESE SONG" (EMI) and "MINNA NO UTA" (EMI JAPAN) in 2012. For the first time since the unit started, the tracks were mostly written in Japanese.

Two albums starring some of the the hottest artists in Japan such as Ketsumeishi, Kishidan, TRF, Meisa Kuroki, Jay'ed, Rip Slyme, MISIA, Ken Hirai, Crystal Kay and "LIFE" by Kimaguren (Studio Apartment Remix) were associated with a commercial for mobile phone company au's product the Sportio. The track achieved over 2,000,000 downloads as a remix record.

SA organized one of the biggest summer house parties, the WORLD MUSeUM (2008-2012), generating attention from all over the world. With over 40 musicians (12 strings/6 horns/10 chorus) on stage, the Studio Apartment Band performed live house music and a DVD of the event was released in 2009.

In 2006, STUDIO APARTMENT established their own labels, Apt. and Apt. International. These labels have made the debuts of many new-generation artists from Japan, including Daishi Dance, Pax Japonica Groove, and others.

SA also released tracks produced by top dance music producers such as Dennis Ferrer, Kerri Chandler, and Jarome Sydenham, playing a significant role in introducing the world standard of dance music to Japan.

Morita is currently engaged in the production of new tracks and new projects.
